Heidi has been a runner since her freshman year of high school. Today, she is a long-distance competitor and a finisher of the Syracuse Half Marathon, her first 13.1-mile race. She finished in 2:06:48.
“Typically, running is my outlet when I find the time but for this race, I trained six days a week,” said Heidi. “I ran on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and I would cross-train on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sundays were my resting days. On average, I’ve run about 20 to 25 miles each week and yoga has become my best friend.”
Jeremy has a love for music and it shows if you have ever seen his acoustic duo, Real Imposters. With Jeremy on the keyboard and his friend Bill playing guitar, they share the spotlight with their vocals.
“We pride ourselves on our variety, which differentiates us from other local acoustics acts,” said Jeremy. “You’ll hear familiar songs like Billy Joel, Dave Matthews, Blondie and Tears for Fear, but you’ll also hear great songs from bands you might not know like Lumineers, Radiohead, Fun and Death Cab for Cutie. We really enjoy the opportunity to play at a variety of local venues.”
Richard took a dramatic look at his health after receiving news from his VA physician that he had extremely high cholesterol and needed to act immediately.
“When I looked online to research my cholesterol level, it basically said to prepare a will,” said Richard. “On that day I quit drinking alcohol and the next day I quit smoking, which was the 36th time I’d quit. Three weeks later I adopted a completely plant-based diet. I am now at almost two years with no alcohol, no cigarettes and no animal products. Today, I feel like I’m back in my twenties. My cholesterol is at a very healthy level and I’ve set an all-time personal record for my 5K time.”
